Specialist Dentistry Educational Program is meant to generate Specialist Dentist having impressive nationalism spirit and :
- Personality which give priority to integrity; appropriate scientific ethics and professional ethics orientation; and national and international perceptive/insight.
- Awareness toward social issues, particularly relating to its specialization.
- Knowledge and skill to manage dental and oral health case requiring special service in conform to its specialization.
- Ability to cooperate and work in a team with other specialist staffs to gain more references and contribution in dealing with specific cases for the importance of patient health.
- Ability to keep on improving self-activity and self-creativity to support the specialization development.
- Ability to determine, make plan, and perform education program independently to promote its specialization.
- Awareness to constantly improve and hold up high the standard of professional practice.
Faculty of Dentistry University of Airlangga, academic year 2004/2005 undertakes the specialist dentistry educational program for 7 (seven) majors as hereunder :
- Orthodontics Program
- Oral surgery Program
- Periodontics Program
- Pedodontics Program
- Dental Conservation Program
- Prosthodontics Program
- Oral Disease Program
Educational program is held pursuant to Decree of Directorate General No. 139/ Dikti/ Kep/ 1984 and No. 141/ Dikti/ Kep/ 1984.
Credit and Period of study
- Orthodontics Program : 63 credits / 6 semester
- Oral surgery Program : 178 credits / 16 semester
- Periodontics Program : 178 credits / 5 semester
- Pedodontics Program : 54 credits / 5 semester
- Dental Conservation Program : 54 credits / 5 semester
- Prosthodontics Program : 55 credits / 5 semester
- Oral Disease Program : 51 credits / 5 semester
Subjects given in Specialist Dentistry Educational Program consists of : General/basic subject, supporting subjects, and major subjects. Further details and description as follows :
1. Orthodontics Program
- • General/basic subjects : 6 credits
- • Supporting subjects : 10 credits
- • Major subjects : 47 credits
which covers among others :
1. Dentofacial orthopaedics, clinical orthodontics,
2. Various kind of treatment technique, Multidiscipline treatment on specific cases such as : cleft lip, cleft palate, orthognatic surgery, etc.
3. Resolve various cases of of dentomaxillofacial anomaly
2. Oral. Surgery Program
- • General/basic subjects : 38 credits
- • General/basic subjects : 36 credits
- • Major subjects I : 104 credits
Clinical medicine and oral surgery cover among others : Surgical treatment for :
- Dentogene and non-dentogene infection, cyst, impaction.
- Maxillary and oral neoplasm, maxillofacial, and oral trauma, temporomandibular joint, nerve, and saliva gland anomaly.
- Genetic, growth and development anomaly
- Orthognatic surgery, pre-prosthodontic surgery
- Periodontics Program
- General/basic subjects : 6 credits
- Supporting subjects : 13 credits
- Major subjects : 34 credits
which covers among others :
- Oral infection
- Periodontal disease epidemiology
- Implantology
- Relation of perio-restoration, perio-ortho, and perio-prostho
- Gingivectomy, flap surgery, bone grafting, gingival grafting, mucogingiva surgery, GTR, treatment for patient with systemic anomaly, and treatment for old-aged patient.
4. Pedodontics Program
- • General/basic subjects : 6 credits
- • Supporting subjects : 12 credits
- • Major subjects : 36 credits
which covers among others :
- 1. Clinical epidemiology
- 2. Dental treatment for normal and disabled/retarded children
- 3. Prevention of dental carries and periodontal disease
- 4. Prevention of malocclusion
- 5. Treatment for dental damage/injury
- 6. Orthodontic interceptive treatment
- 7. Treatment of minor oral surgery on children
- 8. Integrated dental treatment on children
5. Dental Conservation Program
- • General/basic subjects : 6 credits
- • Supporting subjects : 10 credits
- • Major subjects : 38 credits
which covers among others :
- 1. Cariology, pulp tissue anomaly
- 2. Restoation on complex dental damage
- 3. Clinical diagnosis on carries and pulp disease
- 4. Conventional endodonthic complex case
- 5. Anticipation attempts of dental conservation treatment failure
- 6. Endo-surgery, endo-restoration
- 7. Complex aesthetics restoration, gnatology, biomaterial
- 8. Clinical genetics, dental radiology
6. Prosthodontics Program
- • General/basic subjects : 6 credits
- • Supporting subjects : 7 credits
- • Major subjects : 42 credits

- 2. Complete denture
- 3. Partial denture (dolder bar)
- 4. Bridge denture
- 5. Immediate denture
- 6. Over denture

7. Oral Medicine Program
- • General/basic subjects : 6 credits
- • Supporting subjects 10 credits
- • Major subjects 35 credits

- 1. Gnatology
- 2. Complete denture

- 5. Immediate denture

Prerequisite of Participant Nominee
- Graduate from Faculty of Dentistry, State or Private University (have or haven?t engaged in permanent staff employment)
- Be able to accomplish the study period (especially for) Oral Surgery Program not later than 30 (thirty) years.
- Have the proficiency in Indonesian language and English
